Observing the rising and falling of one's own breath is an effective way of entering a deep state of meditation. Similarly, I observe and connect the rising and falling of my own breath with the rising and falling (pushing and pulling, back and forth) of my brushstrokes as I lay them down. Watching, witnessing, and listening closely; As I do, the notion of self disappears and I enter the sacred state of flow. And although my work reflects the interior landscape of the artist at the moment of their creation, they also serve to encourage a state of mindfulness, or the quality of mind that notices what is present, without judgment, without interference, in all who come to view them. In this way, the painting serves as a great mirror illuminating and making visible that, which lays beneath the surface.
