There’s a Yoruba folklore that haunted me as a child, tales of a woman who had the power to remove her head from its neck, place it on her lap and braid her hair. It was a common story that showcased; mysterious beings dwelling amongst us. I decided to portray this through my sculpture, by using charcoal to create Bantu knots, an indigenous hair style among the Zulu tribe of South Africa.
