y first ever oil painting was of a “baby orchid” purchased last Mother’s Day when I gifted my Mami a larger one. I am used to acrylics and watercolors that dry so quickly, I found oils very forgiving in that sense. It’s a medium you cannot rush, you go at its own pace. This required a patience on my part that I’ve never needed before when creating. Ironically, that same patience was begged of me when I spent months watering a flower-less orchid plant until I finally saw the first bud. And then another, and another. This baby bloomed over 10 beautiful buds and flowers, a small feat for someone like me who was never able to keep them alive before. But patience and faith proved to be a virtue.
