Embodied Walls 1 reimagines the tote plaid bag by transforming it into breeze blocks and textiles, also known as wrappers, that function as architectural and sartorial markers of place. The work draws from childhood memories of peering through screen blocks to observe and recognize visitors approaching our home. Painted figures, my friends in Tallahassee, inhabit these forms, emphasizing human presence as central to how memory, culture, and social interaction shape lived and politicized spaces. Echoing Lucy Lippard’s view of place as a lived condition rather than a fixed site, the work reflects how I continue to carry and reimagine home through an ordinary, mobile object embedded with fragments of experience.
