The spiritual connection between where we come from and where we are going and tye strength behind our lineage is what inspired this piece. Here the leg are emerged from drapery that supports and connects them to the ground. The drapery represents source. Home, ancestry, memory. Like a baby's swaddling cloth that is eventually outgrown, it holds the foundations from which identity is formed. I did not want it to read as restriction but as strength. This work challenges the idea that freedom is something to be found. So I see rising not as escape but as recognition of one's true self. Home strengthens us, growth gives us wings, therefore freedom has always been.
