KIZUNA — A Heart in Bloom Artist : Sachiko Sukegawa This mixed-media artwork is created from vintage Japanese kimono and obi textiles, carefully folded, shaped, and layered by hand into individual flowers. Once worn and cherished as part of someone's life, these vintage silks carry traces of time, memory, and human connection. In this work, textiles of different colors, patterns, and histories are given new life as individual blossoms. Together, they form a single heart. Each flower represents a memory, a person, or a cherished feeling. As the individual blossoms come together, they become a symbol of Kizuna — the Japanese concept of enduring bonds and connections between people. Different memories and histories meet, connect, and are transformed into something new. By giving these time-honored textiles a new form and purpose, the artwork celebrates love, memory, and the bonds that continue across time and generations. Memories of the past become flowers.
