God will provide. We’ve heard it all our lives. Modern medical practices and economics often belie that adage. And yet, throughout history there have been those who hear and understand the healing bounty that nature has designed—antidote plants that grow next to poisonous ones, plants that detoxify, stop bleeding, and adjust chemical levels that humankind has only recently discovered. And there are those born to study and utilize these gifts. They have been both honored and vilified throughout time—the odd women in the woods, the shamans, the energy healers—and yet they have persevered in their work. Repudiated by Western medicine, they have continued their crafts, bringing mercy and restoration to those who put their trust in their knowledge.
